Winged Wonders is a family owned and operated
business located in Batavia, Ohio and Morehead,
Kentucky. My father, Richard Hesterberg, has
studied butterflies for over 40 years. His passion
took him to Costa Rica, where he lived for 5 years
working at the National Museum as a collector
and curator.
His next career move brought him to Florida's "Cypress Gardens" where he was in charge of the "Wings of Wonder" exhibit for nine
years. He has been named in several scientific papers and in several reference books on butterflies and has a butterfly named after him, the
Adelphia hesterbergi, which is a species he was first to collect while in Costa Rica. He currently resides in Morehead, Kentucky. Check out his webpage at

I started my own business in 2005 framing and mounting specimens and also wing art traveling to art shows around the greater Cincinnati area. The insects incorporated in our artwork are imported from all over the world. The majority come from breeders and farmers in the tropical areas of Central and South America, Central Africa and the Indo-Australian region. We also breed our local butterflies to help our populations here. Buying through breeders and breeding ourselves, Winged Wonders is playing a proud part in preserving the rainforest habitat and protecting butterflies here at home.
For each piece of artwork we coordinate background, frame and matt colors with the color, form and texture of the butterfly specimens which allows us to demonstrate our artistic efforts. We feel we offer more than artwork, an actual
representation of Natural History !!!
